Prof John Skerrit
Adj Prof John Skerritt is currently the Deputy Secretary for Health Products Regulation in the Commonwealth Department of Health, which covers both TGA and the Office of Drug Control, which is responsible for developing and implementing the new medicinal cannabis regulatory framework. He is formerly a Victorian Government Deputy Secretary and has extensive experience in medical, agricultural and environmental policy, regulation, research management, technology application and commercialisation. In the 1990s he patented and commercialised over a dozen in vitro diagnostic tests for the international market, and is the author of almost 300 scientific publications.
Dr Skerritt is a University Medallist and PhD graduate of the University of Sydney in Pharmacology and is an Adjunct Full Professor at the Universities of Sydney, Queensland and Canberra, and a graduate of Senior Executive programs of ANZSOG, the London Business School and IMD Switzerland. He is the former Deputy CEO of a Commonwealth Statutory Authority and Ministerial appointee on the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee. He was the 2012 “Global Alumni Service to Humanity” awardee from Rotary International for services to science and international development. Dr Skerritt is currently Vice-Chair of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities and also is Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Centre for Innovation in Regulatory Science.
