Dr Scott Fisher

Dr Scott Fisher is a research scientist with over 17+ years’ experience in using small animal models to study infectious disease and cancer. He co-ordinates the MexTAg preclinical research program at the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) within the School of Medicine at the University of Western Australia and has a strong background in molecular biology and tumour immunology. His main area of research is centred on the use of pre clinical mouse models of mesothelioma (transplantable and transgenic), to better understand; a) assess the impact of voluntary exercise as an adjunctive strategy to improve the efficacy and tolerability of anti-cancer treatment for mesothelioma; b) how host genetics affect mesothelioma development after asbestos exposure; c) assess the carcinogenic potential of different asbestos and asbestiform fibres and d) understanding the host cancer immune response to better develop and use novel immunotherapies with the aim of improving current treatment options for mesothelioma and other solid malignancies.
